CLS Summer School 2017: Law and Values of the European Union

Are you:
...interested in EU law and/or the values of the EU?
...free from 9 to 22 July?
...eager to spend some time in the Czech mountains, surrounded by great people?

Then you should certainly have a look at this webpage and consider applying to the sixth edition of CLS Summer Schools, devoted to the Law and Values of the European Union!

"The Union is founded on the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities," Article 2 TEU announces, and adds: "These values are common to the Member States in a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men prevail." Looking around Europe today does not give many reasons for complacency: the various crises of the Union provide a rather bleak perspective on the values written into the EU Treaties back in 2009.

After having studied "the many crises of the EU" in 2016, we have now decided to take a closer look at the EU's foundational values - both as political myths and as reality. As every year, we will take you through the foundations of EU law and politics and we'll discuss more advanced topics with our guests. There will be interactive seminars, evening debates, and much more! (You do not often have an opportunity to have a beer or two with a famous professor or a member of the European Court of Justice, go to sauna with them and discuss latest case-law all along...) We offer you a unique atmosphere, a caring organising team (of students and volunteers) and two weeks of great experiences with a great group of students and lecturers from all around the world.

Confirmed lecturers include: Siniša Rodin (ECJ judge) and Michal Bobek (ECJ Advocate General) to give keynote lectures; Jan Komárek (LSE) and Zuzana Vikarská (Masaryk Uni & Oxford Uni) to teach the general course; Conor Gearty (LSE), Barbara Havelková (Oxford University), Agustín José Menéndez (University of Oslo), and Aoife Nolan (University of Nottingham) to give guest lectures and seminars.

Applications are open until 16 April, all the information can be found at the project website. And if you have any questions, do get in touch, we will be happy to assist you.
